TF2 All Characters: Meeting the Team

Table of Contents

Team Fortress 2 was released by Valve in 2007 and is still played by thousands of gamers around the world. This multiplayer first-person shooter offers play for one of two teams in the selected mode.

Over the years, there have been many users who collect rare TF2 character skins and personalize heroes. In-game cosmetics do not provide any advantages or change characteristics, however, the items do enhance the player’s personal status, personality, and style. Players change, buy and sell Team Fortress 2 Items both in the official store and on third-party sites.

The goal and gameplay depend on the map and location. TF2 characters are divided into nine classes. There are two teams competing in the game: RED and BLU. Their names come from the names of two brothers, Blutarch and Redmond who could not agree on how to share their father’s land and secret organization.

RED Team

TF2 RED Team

It is a group of mercenaries called Reliable Excavation Demolition specializing in excavation and blasting various objects, as well as the manufacture of bread and beer. The team style is rather simple and uncomplicated, so the buildings are made in appropriate architecture. Since the name of the team is consonant with the “red” color, all the paraphernalia is colored in these shades.

BLU Team

TF2 BLU Team

This is an abbreviation of the full name Builders League United. The team consists mainly of engineers, so their work is more focused on technique and accuracy. Their buildings are more advanced, made of brick and metal. The team’s color is blue, as it sounds similar to the name.

The main activity of both teams is just a cover for spy organizations, so the game modes are more focused on objectives such as:

  • point control;
  • document capture;
  • area control.

There are other gameplay options such as Arena, Payload, King of the Hill, etc. The game has a system of achievements, mocks, crits, and many other interesting things.

TF2 Class Guides

Before we look at the basic question of how many characters are in TF2, it’s a good idea to examine the classes and their features. There are three classes in the game:

  1. Offensive is an attacking group; its purpose is to attack, breakthrough, and capture targets. The class contains the toughest guys with high damage levels and movement speed.
  2. Defense is the defense and containment of opponents. The task of the defensive class is to prevent the enemy from attacking and to defend structures while the attacking team members do their job. Characters have high firepower and disruptive ability.
  3. Support is needed to regenerate health and other additional benefits that provide superiority in the game. Medics, Spies, and Snipers are not known for their health and kill rate but they can create game-changing moments with their abilities.

Players who are just starting out in the game should choose their TF2 roles with caution, and start with heroes that cause high damage and have great health, such as Soldier.

Team Fortress 2 Characters: Review of All the Characters

Each of the three character classes has three heroes. There are nine characters in all classes in TF2 that have their own weapons, ammunition, and skills. Each character has a different story, so there is a storyline in the game — atypical to shooters. Let’s consider each TF2 class order to understand their features and specialization.

Offensive Class

Includes such team members as Soldier, Scout, and Pyro. Although their tasks are similar, they are carried out differently, according to their assigned skills.

Soldier

TF2 Soldier

A slow but well-equipped fighter, excellent at long, medium, and short range. He has an unstable psyche, which is why he was not accepted into the army. He always wears a World War II helmet and calls himself Jane Doe.

His arsenal includes a:

  • rocket launcher — it affects several enemies at once and is used at long range;
  • shotgun — used at medium range, and can be replaced by a combat banner with a horn, which gives some bonuses to the whole team;
  • spade — for close combat. If you replace it with a blade, whip, or katana, the allies will speed up.

Given the expanded range of ammunition, Soldier can play well in a support group.

Scout

TF2 Scout

His outfit includes pants, sneakers, and a baseball cap, and wears an headset. He was the youngest of seven brothers in the family, so he learned to run fast to avoid beatings. His name in the game is Jeremy and he belongs to the fastest movement class Team Fortress 2 but with a low level of health. Only he can make a double jump and change his trajectory, confusing his opponents.

As to the weapons, he has a:

  • semi-automatic shotgun for medium and long-range;
  • scattergun for short-range;
  • and an aluminum bat, which enables him to strike powerful blows at close range.

Scout is most effective at the start. He can capture intelligence within the first minutes of the game when the opponents have not yet set up a defense.

Pyro

TF2 Pyro

One of the most enigmatic characters, whose gender has not even been finalized. The character has high speed but also works well in ambushes. The main equipment is a flamethrower that has an extended effect, and the fireproof suit minimizes the character’s exposure to enemy fire. Notably, Pyro sees the world in completely different colors staying in the rainbow environment of Pyroland with cute unicorns and little angels and releasing not fire, but soap bubbles.

The arsenal includes:

  • a flamethrower — a hand-made device that strikes multiple enemies at once. It holds 200 rounds and sets an afterburner effect that continues to damage opponents. If necessary, the flamethrower can be switched to compressed air mode to repel the enemy. It consumes 20 rounds of ammunition in the latter case;
  • a shotgun, used when the opponent is further away from the flamethrower’s range;
  • A fire ax — a firefighter’s tool.

Pyro’s fire detects Spies, and the character’s role will be the most effective from an ambush.

Defensive Class

Each Team Fortress character of this class is equipped with an arsenal featuring the maximum killing power to keep the enemy away from important points. Defenders set traps, create defensive structures, create robots, think through the system of technical support for the attacking group, and provide a safe retreat.

Demoman

TF2 Demoman

His real name is Tavish DeGroot, and he is a Black fighter originally from Scotland. His fascination with explosives became fatal to his foster parents, so he was raised in an orphanage most of the time. He suffers from alcoholism and an obsession with killing the Loch Ness Monster. He is the only character without a firearm in his arsenal. His speed is not high but he’s good with explosives.

His weapons include:

  • Grenade Launcher — a four-shot weapon with bombs that are activated after 2–3 seconds;
  • Stickybomb Launcher — it has eight charges, and allows users to stick bombs in the right places to hit advancing enemies;
  • Scrumpy is needed not only for drinking but also in close combat.

In addition to those listed above, Demoman has an impressive collection of edged weapons: swords, axes, as well as protective boots and shields. This is a character for experienced players who quickly understand the terrain and the situation.

Heavy

TF2 Heavy

Heavy’s real name is Mikhail, a native of the former Soviet Union, as evidenced by the obvious accent. He is the most powerful character in terms of health but is vulnerable to Spies and Snipers. It is a true tank in the game. Together with Medic, who replenishes energy, he can kill a lot of enemies. The main disadvantage of Heavy is his sluggishness. Such a mountain of muscle seems clumsy, especially when firing.

The weapons include:

  • a machine gun — it takes a second to spin up the barrel and another to stop;
  • a minigun — useful for close combat as an additional weapon;
  • fists, which are effective at close range.

If there is no Medic around, the sandwich, which should be unlocked, will help restore health. It is important to keep an eye on the ammo count and replenish it whenever possible.

Engineer

TF2 Engineer

Dell Connager was born in Texas and has 11 doctorates, which he skillfully uses to support team members. His tasks include erecting and destroying defensive structures, turrets, and entry and exit portals. He uses metal, which he finds in the crates with ammo, collects from the fallen enemies, and gets from the destroyed buildings. He can carry 200 units of material at a time. He has medium speed and small health reserves.

His arsenal includes:

  • a pistol — designed for long-range combat;
  • a shotgun — used for medium and short range;
  • a wrench — intended for close confrontation as a finisher.

It should be taken into account that the engineer can build only one type of building in the game, so you should carefully choose the building you need at the moment. When it is destroyed, the amount of material is significantly less than when it was built.

TF2 Support Classes

Characters of this class do not act in open combat, as they do not have enough weapons, health, or speed for this. However, they are a good help to other classes, increasing their resistance to hits, fire, and bullets, speeding up recovery, and providing healing.

Medic

TF2 Medic

Ludwig comes from Stuttgart, which is evident from his German accent. He lost his license a long time ago but this does not prevent him from providing excellent help to his comrades. The Overheal effect is especially important with 150% health regeneration. The effect of healing devices has a limited radius, and to call a healer it is enough to shout the word “Medic”. In this case, the icon with the cross is illuminated through the walls, making it easier to find the subject.

Medic is equipped with the following items:

  • a syringe gun — used for self-defense;
  • a healing cannon — restores the health of team members;
  • Bonesaw — a cold weapon for close combat.

Medic’s special ability, the ÜberCharge, should be mentioned. It accumulates over time and gives the patient temporary superpowers, such as resistance to bullets, or a 100% chance of crits.

Spy

TF2 Spy

One of the most difficult characters in terms of control and confrontation. Of French origin, he can become invisible for 10 seconds and put on the image of one of the enemies along with voice commands to infiltrate the enemy rear. Spy is endowed with little health, so he prefers quiet stealthy maneuvers instead of open combat.

The Spy’s weapons include:

  • a butterfly knife — capable of delivering a lethal blow to the back;
  • a revolver — used to hit at long and medium ranges.

Instead of a weapon, Spy often uses a basic and additional set of disguises, so the player must possess the gift of persuasion to effectively pretend to be a member of the opposing team.

Sniper

TF2 Sniper

He is a long-distance player that always wears a hat and sunglasses. Mr. Mundy was born in New Zealand but fate took him to Australia where he was raised by foster parents. The character is known for his poor health and speed, so he operates from an ambush. The kill rate of his sniper rifle is regulated by the sight with a 100% charge.

The Sniper’s arsenal consists of:

  • a rifle — a super-powerful weapon with a scope;
  • a PP — used in close combat;
  • a Kukri knife — it has a large blade and is used in personal confrontations.

Sniper must know the map perfectly, and be able to quickly retreat from an ambush if the place is spotted by enemies.

In the summer of 2023, Valve announced a major update, and fans are looking forward to it. So far the exact date has not been revealed but we already know that there will be new maps, mocks, and skins. Some players hope that there will be a TF2 new class, which will bring variety to the game.
