The air is full of Esports anticipation – a new significant CS:GO tournament is just around the corner! ESL One: Cologne 2018 starts on July 3 and continues for six days, until July 8.

ESL One: Cologne – greatness, year after year

This tournament is one of the most prestigious in the world of CS:GO and Dota 2 Esports. It takes place at the LANXESS Arena in Cologne, Germany, for several years already, gathering the most powerful teams and the most enthusiastic fans.

Here is a bit of history:

  • ESL One: Cologne 2014$250,000 prize pool; Ninjas in Pyjamas defeated Fnatic in the final;
  • ESL One: Cologne 2015$250,000 prize pool; Fnatic defeated Team EnVyUs in the final;
  • ESL One: Cologne 2016$1,000,000 prize pool; SK Gaming defeated Team Liquid in the final;
  • ESL One: Cologne 2017$250,000 prize pool; SK Gaming defeated Cloud9 in the final.
  • Events of ESL One: Cologne are sponsored by Valve Corporation itself, and this emphasizes the importance of the tournament.

    It is an honor for professional players to participate in this competition, so there was quite a fight to get places in the 2018 tournament.

    Qualifiers took place in:

  • Europe – the North and Gambit Esports teams got  their tickets;
  • North America – the Renegades team won;
  • Asia – the B.O.O.T-dream[S]cape team was the most successful here.
  • Also, as in other CS:GO tournaments (such as DreamHack Masters Marseille), some famous teams have gotten direct invitations: Astralis; BIG; Cloud9; FaZe Clan; Fnatic; G2 Esports; Team Liquid; MIBR; mousesports; Natus Vincere; and Ninjas in Pyjamas.

    So, 16 teams are battling it out at ESL One: Cologne 2018:

    ESL One: Cologne 2018 – Schedule

    There will be a Group Stage and Playoff matches:

  • The Group Stage competition starts on July 3. Matches in two groups will last for three days. The initial games are in Bo1 format (best of 1), and all the others are Bo3. The three best teams in both groups go forward.
  • The Playoff starts on July 6 with the Quarterfinals, where the second and third teams from the groups will play. The group winners will proceed directly to the Semifinals. The Grand Final will be in Bo5 format, whilst the other matches will be Bo3.
  • The prize pool of ESL One: Cologne 2018 is $300,000.
