Yet another major championship has just ended, and we are one step closer to the biggest event of the season – The International.
ESL One Birmingham was held from May 23 to May 27. It was the first Dota 2 major organized and held in the UK. Congratulations Britons for joining the booming Dota 2 eSports market! Without further ado, let’s review the event and have a look at the final tournament table.
Championship Results
Have a look at the final tournament table:
-

-
OpTic Gaming – $200,000 and 450 DPC points
-
paiN Gaming – $100,000 and 225 DPC points

5-6. Mineski, OG – $34,000 each team
7-9. Team Spirit, Team Liquid, LGD.Forever Young – $16,000 each team
10-12. Evil Geniuses, Vici Gaming, Newbee – $8,000 each team
As Natus Vincere declined their invitation, Team Spirit joined the tournament as a representative from the CIS region. Unfortunately, the team wasn’t able to pull themselves together, and finished third in their group, thus exiting the competition.
Virtus.Pro was the highlight of the tournament. They showed great skills and team play, which resulted in them seizing first place and No[o]ne receiving the MVP trophy, an epic-looking goblet and a Mercedes-Benz car. Moreover, it seems that the team set a new eSports record. They won ESL One Birmingham without single defeat. The team finished the group stage with a total score of 5:0. The situation was the same during the play-off – VP won two maps with a score of 5:0, leaving no chance to their rivals.
The team won $500,000, 750 dpc points per player, which accounts to 2,250 dpc points for the three strongest players in the team and a car. It’s interesting to note that they didn’t even have to participate, let alone put so much effort in, as they already earned their invitation to The International. Probably they decided to employ the ancient tactics of intimidation and create a powerful image before the decisive event of this season.
Dota 2 Pro Circuit Points
Nothing has drastically changed in the team placement since MDL Changsha Major, Virtus.Pro, PSG.LGD, Team Liquid and Team Secret are still the only four teams that have qualified for The International. Mineski, Vici Gaming, Newbee and VGJ.Thunder still have high chances to grab their ticket to the biggest event of the season if they show an impressive playing style at the upcoming China Dota2 Supermajor. Maybe we will see some unexpected development, though, as a whopping 3375 dpc points are at stake, and some lucky team can make a breakthrough, seizing their pass to the grand championship at the last minute.
Let’s have a look at the current DPC points table:
Virtus.Pro are 4 000 DPC points ahead of their closest rival, PSG.LGD. It seems like they decided to take over the Dota world, and their conquest is stunningly successful. However, we’ll see what happens at the China Dota 2 Supermajor and The International itself. What we love about eSports is that everything can change in a heartbeat.
